Did You Miss It? Jennifer Lopez Commemorates 23rd Anniversary of ‘Selena’ Biopic Release

Published: Monday 23rd Mar 2020 by Rashad

March 21 marked the 23rd anniversary of the release of ‘Selena’ – the Jennifer Lopez-led biographical motion picture of late music star Selena Quintanilla.

Released in 1997, almost exactly two years after the 23-year-old singer was slain by her own fan, Yolanda Saldívar, the critically acclaimed film not only raked in $60 million at the box office but is also credited as Lopez’s breakthrough and signature role.

To commemorate the profound impact the Gregory Nava-directed movie had on her life and career, the ‘I’m Real’ singer took to social media to offer a heartfelt salute to Quintanilla.

THE LIPSINGING DANCER’S BASIC CLAIM TO FAME. USING A VERY TALENTED VOCALIST LIKE SELENA TO MAKE-SHIFT A CAREER FULL OF FRAUD SINGING (THANKS TO ASHANTI, CHRISTINA MILLIAN AND MARIAH CAREY), STEALING VOCALS AND BEATS — AND FOOLING THE PUBLIC TO BELIEVE SHE’S A TALENT VOCALIST — WHICH SHE IS NOT.

Gurl you are so ’00 stop of living in 20 years ago lol . live your life now we are in 2020 and stop with the hate . Jennifer Lopez is an international icon . Yes she used, credited and the label paid legally to all the background singers so what’s the point? Why is this hurting so much?? Lol. Jennifer’s team used Ashanti – two song , Christina millian – 1 song, cowriah carey – 1 song . do you think her career was based in 4 songs of other artist?! Hell no! Jennifer released 10 albums , she is 20 years on the industry she is a survivor , she is a hard work woman and still is relevant (she started at the same time as Christina and Britney, where are them now?), Jennifer sold 80 millions records, she performed on the Superbowl , she wins the vanguard award and she is the first female to win the billboard icon award. Jennifer totally deserve it her success.

You are so misinformed, it’s sad. Jennifer Lopez is a hardworking woman, I will always give and credit her for that, but a good portion of her career comes from stealing songs, vocals and using people as crutches (diddy, ben) to get her to where she is today. There are countless of other artist who have voiced their opinions on her about this also. She has taken from Chante Moore, Usher, Brandy, Keri Hilson, and many others as well, by using uncredited vocals as her own. Usher hadn’t forgiven her for years he said for her stealing his originally song before she changed it to “Get Right”. A spade is a spade and a duck is a duck….and this one has been quaking for quite some time now. And to compare her to Britney and Xtina is a joke. First off, they are 2 different age groups. Brit and Xtina were kids practically when J.Lo broke the scene, and they were still running circles around her career with many accolades and praises that J.lo didn’t get until years later. Being young and at the age is a tender time for anyone, look what MJ went through. The experiences they had against J.los probably pales in comparison. Xtina has said she was even depressed from it for years and we see what it did to poor Britney *sad face*. So yeah, I say all of that to say…you’re misinformed.

        You’re welcome ☺️

How does a topic like this generate so much hate and anger? Jennifer has genuine love and respect for Selena and her family and there is nothing wrong with honoring that on the 23rd anniversary of a film that only happened because it was approved by Selena’s own family. Obviously they wanted their daughter/sister to be portrayed by someone with the skills to capture Selena’s likeness. They chose Jennifer, and rightfully so, which is why this film will continue to endure the test of time over other biopics that were made irrespective of the wishes expressed by surviving family members.

By “other biopics”, I’m speaking about Hollywood in general.
